Thuluth Calligraphy Roundel — Acrylic Islamic Wall Art

This is a single roundel of classical Thuluth calligraphy, cut as one continuous piece. The letters are stacked and interlocked rather than set along a straight line: tall alifs and lams rise through the upper half like a row of masts, the name of Allah sits near the top of the circle, and the lower letters sweep out into long shallow bowls that close the round. The vowel marks and diamond-shaped dots are cut as separate shapes and float in the gaps, which is what keeps a composition this dense readable from across a room.

A roundel this size wants a clear wall and room to stand back from it: above a majlis seating run, over a console in an entrance hall, or centred on the wall of a prayer room. Gloss piano black reads as a crisp silhouette against pale plaster and is the quietest of the three. Mirror gold warms against deep or saturated paint and catches lamplight after dark. Mirror chrome silver is the coolest of the three and sits well with grey, concrete and brushed steel.

• Material: 3mm cast acrylic, cut on the CO2 laser in our own Dubai workshop.
