Ayat an-Nur — Acrylic Islamic Wall Art

The whole of Ayat an-Nur — the Verse of Light, Surah an-Nur 24:35 — set out in Thuluth and composed into the silhouette of a hanging mosque lamp. The word Allah rises at the top on a single tall alif. Beneath it the verse curves through the body of the lamp, naming the niche, the lamp within it, the glass like a brilliant star, and the olive tree neither of the east nor of the west. At the widest point the words nurun ala nur, light upon light, are cut large enough to read from across a room.

Cut as one tall piece, it reads best on a narrow wall where height is what you have to spare — a stair return, a hallway between two doors, the strip beside a majlis seating run. At 60 cm wide it stands about 120 cm tall, so check your drop before choosing a size. Gloss piano black holds the letterforms as clean silhouettes against a pale wall. Mirror gold warms under a downlight and carries the room behind it. Mirror chrome silver stays cooler and sharper, and suits grey or stone-toned walls.
